What is the use of these components (buffers) in between the train bogies?

In childhood, I used to think it was a kind of magnet or coupler which joins other bogie. But it wasn't right.

Those parts are called buffer springs. It absorbs the vibrations/shocks that created during brakes or stopping.
And prevents the bogies to ride or hit over another bogie. It doesn't act as a coupling.

By seeing.. It we may think its for connection but it doesn't.

Buffer stop to prevent train from going other side.
